My journey didn't start in a laboratory; it started with a single cup served without sugar. Growing up with traditional Malaysian coffee, I believed coffee was meant to be either painfully bitter or heavily sweetened. That first gourmet cup shattered everything—it was silky smooth, naturally sweet, and deeply fragrant. It sparked a lifelong obsession with what coffee could truly be.

Before the Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association was set up, we traveled overseas for international coffee competitions. Inspired by the discipline and passion on the global stage, we returned home determined to help build a local specialty coffee culture. We hosted pop-ups, educated drinkers on natural tasting notes, and pushed past criticism to elevate the local scene.

I had the chance to live in Melbourne for more than a decade, immersed in one of the world's most vibrant coffee cultures. While everyone defines the ‘perfect cup’ differently, my time there reinforced my personal obsession: chasing a brew that is naturally sweet, clean, and deeply expressive of its origin.
